Community Engagement Meetings (Round 2!)

The SmartSHOTS team and our volunteers have completed the second series of Community Engagement Meetings. Participants in the Community Engagement Meetings were recruited from Community Health Councils from across Tennessee to help the SmartSHOTS team identify barriers to immunization and resources that could help caregivers overcome those barriers—more information on the first community engagement meeting here. Through analysis of the transcripts from the first meetings, the SmartSHOTS team created the User Flow for the SmartSHOTS app. The User Flow is, essentially, the blueprint for how users will navigate the app to access the available features.

During the second round of Community Engagement meetings, held in early November 2022, the SmartSHOTS team walked participants through the User Flow to show them how the design of the app would assist caregivers in overcoming the barriers to immunization identified during the first meetings. Volunteers were shown a detailed walk-through of what features would be available, how users would access them, and how a variety of different users from different backgrounds would be served by the app.

Participants provided the SmartSHOTS team with feedback on how a variety of users would interact with the app and its features. Caregiver situations like adoption, fostering, and separated families and their unique needs were discussed, and practical features within the app will be added to address these unique needs.

The SmartSHOTS team plans to have the functional prototype ready by the end of May 2023, and we will be scheduling the third round of Community Engagement Meetings for July and August of 2023. Stay tuned for more updates!
